Panipat Traffic Police Identify 10 ‘Black Spots’ on NH-44

In an urgent bid to curb rising fatalities on the National Highway-44 (NH-44), the Panipat Traffic Police have identified 10 accident-prone ‘black spots’ along the district’s highway stretch. The identification comes after a detailed analysis of road accident data for the year 2025, which revealed that 331 people lost their lives and 401 were injured in 570 accidents across the district.

A “black spot” is defined as a 500-meter stretch where either five road accidents involving fatalities or grievous injuries have occurred, or where 10 fatalities have been reported over the last three years. The identified locations include the stretch from Hotel Gold to Malik Petrol Pump, Nangal Kheri Nexa Showroom, Red Light Chowk to Hotel Skylark, Kesar Dhaba, and the New Bus Stand to Sewah Village Cut. The area near the Toll Plaza and specific points in Samalkha were also flagged as highly dangerous.

Traffic officials highlighted wrong-side driving as a primary cause of these accidents. To address this, the police, in coordination with the Municipal Corporation (MC) and NHAI, have initiated corrective measures. “We have identified locations for installing CCTV cameras to penalize violators automatically. Tenders have been floated for cameras at critical points like the Babarpur Mandi flyover, Mini Secretariat flyover, and Sanoli Road flyover,” a senior traffic official stated.

The data presented a grim picture: in December 2025 alone, 44 accidents claimed 25 lives. The police have now ramped up enforcement, launching special challaning drives against wrong-side driving and speeding. Additionally, road safety awareness campaigns are being conducted in schools and colleges to educate young drivers about traffic rules.
