Punjab Police have finally issued a statement on the August 10 blast at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar, which left Constable Gurpreet Singh of the Bomb Disposal Squad critically injured.
Police said the squad was called to neutralise an IED and two grenades seized earlier. While Gurpreet Singh was carrying the explosive material packed in containers, a low-intensity blast occurred, severely injuring his face, hands and legs.
He was shifted to PGI Chandigarh after initial treatment and plastic surgery. Police assured that all medical expenses and entitlements are being covered. An inquiry is underway to detect any technical or procedural lapses.
