In a significant move to grease the wheels of the state’s revenue machinery, the Haryana government on August 2 announced the engagement of Patwaris on a contractual basis. The decision aims to immediately address the mounting backlog of land revenue work that has been inconveniencing farmers and property owners across the state.
๐ The Announcement: Bridging the Gap The Revenue and Disaster Management Department issued the directive to hire Patwaris on a contract basis to mitigate the staff shortage.
-
Target Group: The hiring will likely prioritize retired revenue officials (Patwaris/Kanungos) who have the technical expertise to handle land records, as well as eligible fresh candidates where necessary.
-
Objective: To expedite pending mutations (intqual), Jamabandi updates, and Girdawari (crop inspection) reports which have been delayed due to the lack of regular staff.
๐ Why Now? The Backlog Crisis The decision comes in the wake of growing public dissatisfaction regarding delays in revenue services.
-
Staff Shortage: With a significant number of sanctioned posts for Patwaris lying vacant and the regular recruitment process by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) taking time, the administrative work had hit a bottleneck.
-
Flood Relief Work: The recent heavy rains in Northern Haryana (Ambala, Panchkula) have added to the workload, requiring immediate field staff to assess crop damage for compensation.
๐๏ธ The Strategy “We cannot keep the public waiting for essential services like land demarcation and income certificates,” a senior government official stated. The administration has empowered Deputy Commissioners (DCs) in respective districts to execute these engagements swiftly to ensure that the revenue work comes back on track immediately.
