Rohtak DC to ITI Principals: Prioritise Practical Training

Feb 2, 2026 | Haryana

In a bid to transform technical education into a launchpad for entrepreneurship, Rohtak Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sachin Gupta has directed the principals of all Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the district to ensure “strong hands-on practical training” for students. Speaking at a meeting with ITI principals and Municipal Corporation officials at the Mini-Secretariat auditorium, Gupta emphasized that the administration’s goal is to nurture students as “job creators rather than job seekers.”

The DC instructed the institute heads to align training modules with current market requirements to ensure that students can earn a sustainable livelihood immediately upon completion of their courses. “The purpose of vocational training is to ensure that students attain full proficiency in their trades and are well-equipped to survive in the open market,” Gupta stated. To broaden their academic horizons, he also directed principals to coordinate with Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) to facilitate admissions into distance education programmes, enabling students to pursue higher studies alongside their technical diplomas.

Focusing on real-world exposure, the administration has ordered ITIs to collaborate with the Municipal Corporation and the Transport Department to secure apprenticeship opportunities, particularly for students in mechanical trades. Gupta suggested organising exposure visits to municipal bodies so students can learn about the functioning of waste-processing machines and heavy vehicles. Furthermore, he advised principals to ensure the optimum utilisation of libraries and to encourage students to prepare for competitive examinations.

The meeting also touched upon civic responsibility. The DC stressed the need to involve ITI students in cleanliness drives, directing institutes to organise three to four such activities every month. He assured that students actively participating in these campaigns would be awarded certificates of appreciation by the district administration.
