In a bold move to improve the city’s cleanliness ranking and public health, the Rohtak Municipal Corporation (MC) today announced a comprehensive plan to remove 100 traditional open garbage dumping points across the city. This initiative is part of the “Garbage-Free Rohtak” campaign aimed at eliminating secondary collection points that often lead to foul smells and stray animal menace.
-
The Plan: The MC has identified 100 spots across various wards where garbage is currently dumped in the open. These spots will be cleared, sanitized, and permanently closed. To prevent further dumping, the corporation plans to:
-
Beautification: Convert these former dumping sites into small green belts, flower beds, or paved areas.
-
Surveillance: Install CCTV cameras and deploy “Night Vigilance Teams” to penalize those found dumping waste at these closed locations.
-
-
Enhanced Door-to-Door Collection: To ensure residents have an alternative, the MC is expanding its door-to-door waste collection fleet. “The removal of these 100 points is only possible if our primary collection is robust. We are adding new electric tippers to ensure that every household and commercial establishment is covered by 9:00 AM daily,” a senior MC official stated.
-
Waste Segregation at Source: Alongside the removal of dumping points, the MC will launch an intensive awareness drive to encourage residents to segregate waste into Dry and Wet categories. This will reduce the load on the main processing plant and improve recycling efficiency.
-
Public Cooperation: The Mayor and MC Commissioner have appealed to citizens to stop using open plots for disposal. “A clean city is a collective responsibility. By removing these eyesores, we are reclaiming public spaces for the people,” the Mayor remarked.
-
Impact on Health: Health experts in Rohtak have welcomed the move, noting that open dumping points are breeding grounds for mosquitoes and flies, contributing to seasonal outbreaks of diseases like dengue and malaria.
-
Timeline: The first phase of the project, covering the busiest commercial zones, will be completed within the next 30 days.
