Khan, also known by his alias ‘Samundar Chacha,’ was a resident of Muzaffarabad in Pakistan. Officials confirmed that an identity card found on his person confirmed his Pakistani nationality. Sources also revealed that he was associated with the banned terrorist organization, Hizbul Mujahideen.

The encounter took place on August 23 when the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint operation in the Gurez Sector based on intelligence inputs. The Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps stated on social media that alert troops spotted suspicious activity and, upon being challenged, the intruders opened fire. The security forces retaliated effectively, neutralizing both terrorists.

The second terrorist killed in the operation is also believed to be a Pakistani national but has not yet been identified. The successful operation has dealt a significant blow to cross-border infiltration efforts, particularly those aimed at disrupting peace in the region.
