Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh) has urged livestock farmers in Haryana to shift away from the unorganized sector and sell their milk through cooperative societies, stating that this move could increase their earnings by ₹8 to ₹9 per litre.

Speaking as the chief guest on the second day of the 41st State-Level Livestock Exhibition in Kurukshetra on Saturday, the Minister highlighted that while the dairy sector is a massive ₹19 lakh crore market, farmers often lose out on profits due to middlemen. “The livestock farmers are not getting the due profits as it is an unorganised sector. With the setting up of cooperative societies at the village level, farmers will get ₹8-9 more per litre,” Singh asserted.

The Minister praised Haryana’s contribution to the national dairy grid, noting that the state accounts for nearly 36% of the country’s total milk output. He pointed out that India’s total milk production has surged from 146.3 million tonnes (MT) in 2014-15 to 248 MT in 2024-25, solidifying its position as the world’s largest milk producer.

Singh also emphasized the modernization of animal husbandry. He revealed that the government is installing genomic chips in animals to monitor diseases and track biological changes, aiding in research and breed improvement. He further stated that the government aims to make India free of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) by 2030 through strict vaccination drives.

On the political front, the Minister took a dig at Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of failing to understand the dignity of his position and making statements for “cheap publicity.”
