In a major boost to public healthcare services in the National Capital Region (NCR), the Haryana government has approved various infrastructure projects collectively valued at over ₹178 crore for the complete upgrade and transformation of the Sonipat Civil Hospital. This decision, formally confirmed around July 3, 2025, follows persistent demands to improve the dilapidated conditions of the decades-old facility.
🏗️ Core Projects Driving the Transformation
The massive financial allocation aims to address severe infrastructural shortcomings and significantly expand the hospital’s capacity and range of specialist services. The key components of the ₹178 crore package include:
-
Mother and Child Health (MCH) Block: The largest single project is the construction of a new, state-of-the-art Maternal and Child Health Wing (MCH). This eight-story, fully air-conditioned modern building is estimated to cost around ₹138 crore. It will house advanced facilities such as:
-
4 Operation Theatres
-
NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)
-
SNCU (Special Newborn Care Unit)
-
Kangaroo Mother Care Unit (KMCU)
-
Once complete, this new block will significantly boost the hospital’s capacity to cater to women and pediatric patients in the entire region.
-
-
New CMO Building: A separate new building for the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) office is slated to be constructed with a budget of approximately ₹27 crore.
-
Roads and Sanitation: Essential civil works include spending ₹1.18 crore to make all roads within the hospital campus cemented and ₹66 lakh for the renovation and repair of all hospital toilets and sanitation facilities.
-
Modern Waiting Areas: The plan also includes the construction of a modern rest house for patients’ attendants and relatives, costing ₹6.45 crore.
📈 Enhancing Sonipat’s Healthcare Capacity
The overhaul is intended to elevate the healthcare standards of the facility, which currently serves a large population in the Sonipat district. The construction of the MCH wing alone is a crucial step towards reducing maternal and infant mortality rates by providing dedicated, high-quality care.
The projects were sanctioned after the issue of the hospital’s poor infrastructure was vociferously raised in the Haryana State Assembly. This substantial investment reinforces the Haryana government’s commitment to strengthening public healthcare and moving towards the development goals of better health services for all citizens.
