Special Goods Train Reaches Rohtak, Ending Weeks of Fertilizer Despair for Farmers

Oct 30, 2025 | Haryana

The heavy rumble of a goods train was a sound of celebration for the farming community in Rohtak today. After nearly two weeks of uncertainty and protests over “dry” godowns, the arrival of a full rake of DAP has significantly de-escalated tensions in the rural heartland.

  • Supply Breakdown: The special rake consists of roughly 50 wagons, carrying enough stock to meet the immediate demand of the district’s primary agricultural blocks. The stock is being prioritized for government-run cooperative societies to ensure it reaches farmers at the mandated rate of ₹1,350 per bag.

  • Distribution Strategy: To avoid chaos at the Mandi gates, the Rohtak Deputy Commissioner has ordered a “Token System.” Farmers who had already registered their requirements on the Meri Fasal Mera Byora portal will be given priority. “We have deployed teams to ensure that the fertilizer is transported to blocks like Meham and Kalanaur overnight so that distribution can begin at 8:00 AM tomorrow,” said a senior official.

  • Impact on Sowing: Agronomists believe this arrival is “just in time.” The window for mustard sowing was nearly closing, and wheat sowing is about to hit its peak. The availability of DAP is expected to trigger a 24/7 sowing cycle in the fields over the next few days.

  • End to Black Marketing: Local leaders hope the influx of fresh stock will kill the artificial “black market” where bags were reportedly being sold for upwards of ₹1,800. Police patrolling around private dealerships has been intensified to ensure no hoarding of the new shipment occurs.

Community Sentiment

“We have been visiting the society office every day for a week. Today, seeing the train pull into the station felt like a victory. I can finally go to my fields tomorrow with the peace of mind that my seeds will have the nutrients they need,” said a farmer from a village near Rohtak.
