In a significant move to transform the urban and rural landscape of the holy city, the Haryana government has sanctioned a massive ₹84-crore infrastructure package for the Thanesar constituency. The fund allocation, approved by the Chief Minister, is set to address long-pending demands regarding road connectivity, drainage systems, and public amenities in the region.

Key Projects Under the ₹84-Crore Plan The development roadmap focuses on decongesting the city and upgrading civic infrastructure to keep pace with the increasing tourist footfall in Kurukshetra.

  • Road Network Upgradation: A major portion of the funds will be used for the strengthening and widening of internal city roads and link roads connecting Thanesar to nearby villages.

  • Sewage and Stormwater Drainage: New sewage lines and stormwater drains will be laid in colonies that have historically faced waterlogging issues during the monsoon.

  • Urban Beautification: The plan includes the installation of decorative LED streetlights, the development of local parks, and the renovation of community centers.

  • Drinking Water Supply: Funds have also been earmarked for the installation of new tubewells and the replacement of old water pipelines to ensure 24/7 supply in several wards.

Political and Administrative Impact Local representatives and the Thanesar MLA [Omitted – likely Subhash Sudha] welcomed the move, stating that these projects would significantly improve the “Ease of Living” for residents. “This ₹84-crore push is a testament to our commitment to making Thanesar a world-class spiritual and modern hub. Work on these projects will begin on a war footing to ensure timely completion,” a spokesperson for the local administration said.

Economic Growth and Tourism As Thanesar is the gateway to the Kurukshetra pilgrimage sites, officials believe that better infrastructure will directly boost religious tourism. The improved roads and sanitation will benefit both local shopkeepers and the lakhs of devotees who visit the Brahma Sarovar and Jyotisar throughout the year.

The Municipal Council of Thanesar has been directed to float tenders for these projects immediately. The administration has also set up a monitoring committee to ensure that the quality of construction meets the prescribed standards.
