Two Laborers Injured in Yamunanagar Mining Area Accident

The mining belt of Yamunanagar was once again in the news today following a serious accident involving a heavy dumper truck. The vehicle, which was reportedly carrying stones and gravel from a local quarry, lost balance and flipped over in a stone crusher zone.

  • The Accident: According to witnesses, the dumper truck was navigating a narrow, unpaved path within the crusher zone when it suddenly overturned. Two laborers who were working on the ground near the vehicle were trapped under the falling debris and sustained severe injuries.

  • Safety Concerns: Labor union representatives arrived at the site shortly after the accident. They alleged that the trucks are often overloaded beyond their capacity, making them unstable on the rough terrain of the mining blocks. They also claimed that workers are not provided with basic safety gear like helmets or boots.

  • Protest by Unions: Protesters raised slogans against the mining department and local contractors. They demanded a strict audit of the safety measures followed at screening plants and crushers. “Safety rules are only on paper. On the ground, the lives of poor laborers are being risked every day for profit,” said a union leader.

  • Police Investigation: Local police have taken the dumper truck into custody. While the driver fled the spot immediately after the crash, an investigation has been launched to check if the vehicle had the required permits and if it was carrying more weight than allowed.
