Yamunanagar Encounter: 1 Arrested, 2 Minors Held After Firing Spree at Hospital & Mall

In a swift crackdown following a night of terror in the city, the Yamunanagar Police have arrested one adult suspect and apprehended two minors following a gunfight in the Kasanpur area early Sunday morning. The trio was involved in two separate firing incidents late Saturday night—one inside a private hospital and another outside a shopping mall—allegedly to demand extortion.

The arrested accused has been identified as Gurlal Singh (19), a resident of Bahmana in Patiala district (some reports say Kurukshetra), while his two accomplices are minors from Taraori, Karnal.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Kamaldeep Goyal, the suspects had fired 13-14 rounds inside Waryam Singh Hospital and 3-4 rounds outside City Mall on Saturday night to create panic. Acting on intelligence, a CIA team intercepted the trio, who were riding a motorcycle, near Kasanpur around 5:30 AM on Sunday. When signaled to stop, the suspects opened fire on the police team.

“In the retaliatory firing, which involved 25-30 rounds from both sides, two of the suspects sustained bullet injuries to their legs. The third suspect was injured after falling from the motorcycle,” SP Goyal stated. All three were admitted to the Mukand Lal District Civil Hospital for treatment. Police recovered one foreign-made pistol and one country-made pistol from their possession.

Preliminary investigations suggest the firing was an extortion tactic orchestrated by the Kala Rana and Noni Rana gang. The hospital owner had reportedly received extortion threats from the gang previously. A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act at the Farakpur police station.
