In a heartening start to the year for dozens of residents, the Yamunanagar Cyber Cell has successfully tracked and recovered 64 mobile phones that were reported lost or stolen during the month of December. The recovered devices, ranging from high-end smartphones to basic models, are estimated to be worth several lakhs of rupees.
The Tracking Operation Under the guidance of the Superintendent of Police (SP) Yamunanagar, the Cyber Cell team utilized advanced technical surveillance to locate the devices.
-
IMEI Tracking: The team continuously monitored the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers of the reported missing phones.
-
Inter-State Recovery: While many phones were found within the district, several were recovered from neighboring states including Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh, where they had been sold to unsuspecting buyers.
The Handover Ceremony A special event was organized today at the district police headquarters where the SP personally handed over the phones to their rightful owners.
-
Relief for Owners: Many owners had lost hope of ever seeing their devices again, especially those containing precious family photos or critical work data.
-
SP’s Advice: During the event, the SP urged citizens to immediately report lost phones on the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. “Early reporting allows the Cyber Cell to block the device and start tracking it before it is dismantled or sent far away,” the SP noted.
Commitment to Digital Safety The Yamunanagar Police emphasized that this recovery drive is part of an ongoing effort to curb mobile snatching and illegal resale. The Cyber Cell is also investigating the shopkeepers and individuals who were found in possession of these lost phones to dismantle any organized “grey market” operating in the district.
