Youth Drowns in Panipat Canal Following Party

A weekend outing turned into a tragedy for a family in Kabri village after a 21-year-old youth drowned in the Delhi Parallel Canal near Sithana village. The victim’s body was recovered by divers on the morning of August 12 near the Khubdu Jhal in Sonipat district, after a two-day search operation.

🏊 The Incident: A Fatal Swim The deceased, identified as Ritik, worked in a local factory. According to family members and police reports:

  • The Party: On Sunday, August 10, Ritik went to the canal bank near Sithana with his cousin Sunny and a friend, Yogesh. The group reportedly consumed beer by the canal side.

  • The Jump: After the “beer party,” Ritik attempted to dive into the canal head-first for a swim. However, he failed to surface after the jump and was swept away by the strong water currents.

  • The Search: His friends immediately alerted the family and the police. Divers from the local administration and the Jan Seva Dal conducted a search for two days.

⚖️ Police and Recovery On Tuesday, August 12, his body was spotted floating near Khubdu Jhal, several kilometers away from the spot where he jumped.

  • Investigation: The Old Industrial Area police took the body into custody and shifted it to the Panipat Civil Hospital for a post-mortem.

  • Handover: Following the legal formalities, the body was handed over to his grieving father, Rishipal.

The incident has sparked fresh warnings from the local administration against swimming in canals, especially under the influence of alcohol, as water levels and currents remain unpredictable during the monsoon season.
