The Zero Hour of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha today witnessed an intense and marathon session as legislators across party lines utilized the time to bring 50 pressing local and state-level issues to the floor.
-
Healthcare Crisis in Focus: A significant portion of the session was dominated by the dire state of Rural Primary Health Centers (PHCs). Several MLAs from the opposition and even the treasury benches highlighted the acute shortage of medical staff. “Building structures is not enough; we need doctors and life-saving medicines. Many PHCs in the Mewat and Sirsa belts are operating without a regular medical officer,” noted an MLA during the heated debate.
-
Infrastructure Woes: The crumbling state of village link roads was another major point of contention. Legislators presented photographs and data regarding pothole-ridden stretches in Fatehabad, Jind, and Sonipat districts, demanding an immediate audit of the PWD and Marketing Board funds.
-
Agriculture & Compensation: Amid the winter chill, MLAs raised concerns about the delay in crop damage compensation for farmers affected by the unseasonal rains earlier this year. The demand for an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for certain winter crops also echoed in the house.
-
The “Zero Hour” Surge: Recognizing the high volume of requests, the Speaker extended the Zero Hour beyond its usual duration to ensure that at least 50 members could voice the grievances of their respective constituencies.
-
Government’s Response: Cabinet ministers were seen taking meticulous notes. The Leader of the House assured the members that the government would provide a detailed status report on the road repair projects and the doctor recruitment drive before the session concludes on Monday.
-
Unemployment & Youth: Issues related to the delay in results of state competitive exams and the need for more local industrial employment for Haryanvi youth were also touched upon, adding to the day’s heavy legislative agenda.
