Following a tragic incident that raised serious concerns about infrastructure standards, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini ordered an urgent and comprehensive safety audit of all sports complexes and stadiums across the state on July 12, 2025. The directive aims to prevent future accidents and ensure the safety of thousands of budding athletes in India’s “sports nursery.”
🔍 Comprehensive Safety Review Mandated
The Chief Minister’s order, issued to the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs and district administrations, mandates a thorough inspection of both government and private sports facilities. The audit will cover:
-
Structural Integrity: Assessing the condition of stadium buildings, spectator stands, and indoor halls.
-
Equipment Safety: rigorous checks of heavy equipment, such as basketball poles, goal posts, and gymnastic apparatus, to ensure they are rust-free and securely anchored.
-
Electrical & Fire Safety: Verifying wiring, lighting systems for night practice, and the availability of functional fire extinguishers.
🛑 Zero Tolerance for Negligence
Reacting strictly to the recent “tragic incident” (which reports suggest involved an equipment failure leading to an injury), CM Saini emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards negligence in maintenance. He stated that the safety of players is paramount and cannot be compromised for bureaucratic apathy.
-
Deadline: Officials have been directed to submit a preliminary status report within 15 days.
-
Accountability: The CM warned that strict disciplinary action would be taken against officers found responsible for poor maintenance of facilities under their jurisdiction.
This move is seen as a critical step to restore confidence among players and parents, ensuring that Haryana’s world-class sporting reputation is matched by world-class safety standards.
