A pall of gloom descended upon the village of Dohar Kalan in Mahendragarh district as news arrived of a tragic road accident that claimed the life of a young Kanwar Yatri in Rohtak. The incident occurred on July 20, 2025, on the National Highway 152D, highlighting the safety risks faced by pilgrims during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra.

The victim, identified as 22-year-old Ashish Kumar, was returning from Haridwar carrying the holy ‘Dak Kanwar’ (a time-bound run with Gangajal). According to police reports, Ashish was struck by a speeding unidentified vehicle near Kalanaur in the Rohtak district.

The Incident: Ashish was making his way towards his hometown when the vehicle hit him on the highway.

Emergency Response: Fellow pilgrims and local residents rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival due to severe injuries.

The Rohtak Police have registered a case against the unknown driver and launched a manhunt to trace the vehicle involved. The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination, and his last rites were performed in his native village on Saturday amidst a large gathering of mourners.
This incident has once again brought to the fore the critical issue of pilgrim safety on Haryana’s highways. Despite separate lanes being designated for Kanwariyas, high-speed traffic on expressways like NH-152D continues to pose a severe threat. Authorities have urged commuters to exercise extreme caution and strictly adhere to speed limits during the Yatra season.
