A major scandal involving student safety has erupted in Jamalpur village, where a government report has revealed that the majority of classrooms in the local Government Primary School are critically dilapidated, leaving hundreds of students in a potential death trap.
๐ซ The Incident: Education Amidst Ruins The issue came to light on July 31, 2025, when reports surfaced that the 57-year-old school building was crumbling. Despite repeated warnings, students continue to attend classes in a structure where a major accident could happen at any time.
The Condition: Out of the school’s 7 classrooms, 4 have been officially declared “unsafe” and unfit for human occupancy. The building’s walls and roofs are compromised, yet no demolition or reconstruction efforts have been initiated by the state government.
The Impact: The condemnation of more than half the schoolโs facilities has forced the entire student body and staff into the remaining two functional rooms. With no space indoors, many students are forced to sit in open verandas or corridors, exposed to the elements and the looming threat of the adjacent unsafe structures.
๐ฃ๏ธ Voices from the Ground “We have no space to seat the children. We informed the department when they asked for details, but we are still waiting,” said Rajesh Kumar, the school in-charge.
Kusum, the SMC President, demanded immediate intervention: “The government must construct a new building immediately so that children can get an education safely.”
Students expressed helplessness, with one named Vivek stating, “What can we do? We sit with the Masterji in one room. Sometimes we sit in the veranda. It is difficult to study like this.”
