A pall of gloom descended on Bastli village in Karnal on August 12 after a 12-year-old boy died from a snake bite. The victim, Jatin, was a student of Class 7 at a private school and was bitten while he was fast asleep in his bed.
๐ The Midnight Tragedy The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday. According to the family:
-
The Bite: Jatin was sleeping on a bed with his mother and younger brother. Around 2:30 AM, the family felt something slithering over them and woke up in a panic.
-
The Predator: Upon searching under the bed, they discovered a Common Krait, one of Indiaโs most venomous snakes. The family reportedly killed the snake on the spot.
-
Delayed Symptoms: Initially, no visible bite marks were found on the boy’s legs. However, by morning, Jatin began complaining of severe stomach pain and a burning sensation in his throatโtypical symptoms of a Krait’s neurotoxic venom.
๐ฅ Fatal Delay The family immediately rushed Jatin to a hospital in Karnal. Tragically, his condition deteriorated rapidly during the journey, and he was declared dead upon arrival.
Authorities have once again urged rural residents to use mosquito nets and keep beds away from walls during the monsoon season, as snakes often enter homes seeking dry shelter.
