The Municipal Corporation office in Faridabad turned into a temporary dumping ground today as hundreds of sanitation workers staged a fierce protest against the civic body. The workers, who have been struggling with irregular payments for several months, used tractor-trolleys to unload waste at the office entrance to draw the administration’s attention.
-
Reason for the Stir: The primary grievance of the workers is the non-payment of salaries for the last two to three months. Protesters highlighted that many contractual workers are finding it difficult to manage basic household expenses and pay school fees for their children.
-
Symbolic Protest: By dumping garbage outside the headquarters, the workers sent a strong message to the officials. “When we work, the city stays clean, but when the government forgets our salaries, the dirt belongs to them,” said a local union leader.
-
Demands Beyond Pay: Apart from the immediate release of salaries, the union is demanding:
-
The removal of the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN) system for sanitation hiring.
-
Regularization of contractual staff who have completed years of service.
-
Provision of proper safety gear, including gloves and masks, for all workers.

Impact on the City: With the strike in full swing, garbage collection was disrupted in major sectors of Faridabad. Piles of waste began accumulating at neighborhood collection points, leading to foul smells and unhygienic conditions for residents.
