The healthcare services at PGIMS Rohtak faced a potential shutdown today as resident doctors protested against the rising instances of violence against medical staff. The latest spark for the protest was an attack on a junior resident late last night in the emergency wing.
-
The Incident: According to witnesses, a patient was brought to the emergency ward in critical condition. While the doctors were busy with the primary check-up, the patient’s attendants reportedly became aggressive over the speed of treatment. The situation escalated into a physical scuffle, where a junior doctor was pushed and threatened.
-
Demands for Safety: The RDA members held an emergency meeting today, expressing their frustration. They stated that “security breaches” have become common, and doctors feel unsafe while performing their duties. Their demands include:
-
Institutional FIR: The administration must file a case against the attackers.
-
Fixed Security Pickets: Armed security or extra guards must be placed at the entrance of the trauma center 24/7.
-
Restricted Entry: Limiting the number of attendants allowed inside the treatment area with a patient.
-
-
Strike Threat: The association has given the hospital administration a 24-hour deadline to act. If the accused are not identified and security is not improved, the doctors have threatened to suspend all elective services and OPDs from tomorrow morning.
-
Patient Inconvenience: Even before a formal strike, the atmosphere at the hospital remained tense. Many doctors wore black badges as a mark of protest, and while emergency services continued, the speed of routine check-ups was affected.
