Ambala is set to become a key player in Haryana’s aviation sector as Union Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu visited the under-construction civil enclave today. The project, a long-standing dream of the region, is being built adjacent to the Ambala Air Force Station to provide domestic air connectivity under the RCS-UDAN scheme.

  • Final Inspection: The Minister toured the terminal building, which is now almost complete. He inspected the check-in areas, security enclosures, and passenger lounges, directing officials to expedite the remaining technical certifications from the DGCA and BCAS.

  • The Ayodhya Mission: The highlight of the visit was the Minister’s confirmation of the first flight route. “Ambala will be connected to the holy city of Ayodhya. We are targeting November for the first takeoff, ensuring that the people of this region can fly directly to the Ram Mandir,” Minister Naidu stated.

  • Operational Strategy: The airport is a “Civil Enclave,” meaning passengers will use the new civilian terminal for all ground formalities while the aircraft will use the existing IAF airbase runway for landing and take-off. This collaborative model has significantly reduced the cost and time required for construction.

  • Expanded Network: Following the Ayodhya launch, the government plans to start flights to Jammu, Srinagar, and Lucknow in phases. These routes have already been identified based on high demand from pilgrims and business travelers.
