In a landmark moment for Haryana’s aviation sector, the DGCA has handed over the aerodrome license for Maharaja Agrasen Airport, marking the completion of its transition from a domestic airstrip to a full-fledged commercial airport.
-
License Details: The license issued to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) permits the facility to handle regular landings and departures. This follows a rigorous inspection in August where officials addressed 42 initial objections raised by the DGCA, ranging from fire safety protocols to technical navigation standards.
-
Technical Upgrades: Under Phase-2, the airport has undergone a massive transformation:
-
Extended Runway: The runway has been lengthened from 4,000 feet to 10,000 feet, making it suitable for mid-range jets.
-
Advanced Navigation: State-of-the-art DVOR (Doppler Very High-Frequency Omni Range) and landing systems have been installed to guide aircraft safely.
-
MRO Hub: Three large hangars for Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services have been completed, aiming to make Hisar a regional aviation technical hub.
-
-
Flight Routes: The state government has finalized an MoU with Alliance Air. The initial flight schedule will feature 70-seater aircraft flying to Ayodhya, Jammu, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and Chandigarh.
-
Regional Impact: Spanning over 7,200 acres, Hisar is set to become one of India’s largest airports by land area. It is expected to stimulate the local economy, particularly the “Integrated Manufacturing Cluster” planned nearby, and provide a major transport alternative for residents of western Haryana and Rajasthan.
