In a significant step toward a circular economy, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has successfully tapped into Japanese industrial expertise to solve one of Gurugram’s most persistent environmental issues—illegal dumping of construction debris.

  • The “Malba to Tiles” Project: During the meeting with senior functionaries from Honda, the CM finalized the roadmap for a facility that will transform mountains of concrete and brick waste into value-added products. “This is a perfect example of waste-to-wealth. We are turning a civic eyesore into eco-friendly tiles for our footpaths and public spaces,” the CM stated.

  • Roles & Responsibilities:

    • Government: To provide land in IMT Manesar and ensure a steady supply of C&D waste collected from across the city.

    • Honda: To invest in the plant’s machinery and operation under its CSR wing, bringing in specialized recycling technology.

  • Environmental Impact: Gurugram currently struggles with massive heaps of debris along the Gurugram-Faridabad Road and the Aravalli foothills. This plant is expected to augment the city’s existing 1,500 TPD (Tonnes Per Day) processing capacity at Basai, helping the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) achieve its “Debris-Free” target.

  • Broader Japanese Collaboration: The meeting was part of a larger outreach where the CM discussed a ₹3,000 crore canal project for Manesar and proposed a dedicated industrial cluster for Japanese companies in Narayangarh, highlighting Haryana’s investor-friendly climate.

  • CSR Mandate: The CM urged other industrial houses to follow Honda’s lead, suggesting that CSR funds be diverted into road beautification, education, and advanced fire-fighting systems for the Gurugram-Manesar industrial belt.
