As the autumn air fills with the beat of the Dhaks, Gurugram has officially transformed into a “Mini Bengal.” The inauguration of a major theme-based pandal today has set a new standard for social consciousness in religious festivities.

  • The Empowerment Theme: The pandal’s facade is adorned with portraits and stories of iconic Indian women, from ancient scholars to modern-day astronauts and athletes. Organizers stated that the theme aims to celebrate Maa Durga not just as a deity, but as a symbol of the inner strength every woman possesses. “We wanted this year’s Pujo to be more than just a ritual; it is a platform to sensitize the youth about gender equality and respect,” said a spokesperson for the Bangiya Parishad.

  • Artistic Excellence: * The Idol: Crafted by artisans from Kumartuli (Kolkata), the idol is made of 100% biodegradable clay and organic paints.

    • The Installation: A special “Wall of Fame” within the pandal premises features interactive digital displays where visitors can learn about women-led grassroots movements in India.

  • Social Justice Connection: Several puja committees in Gurugram, including those in Sector 56 and DLF Phase 1, have aligned their themes this year to seek justice and awareness for women’s rights, referencing the “Abhaya” movement. Many pandals have dedicated corner spaces for local NGOs to display literature on women’s legal rights and mental health support.

  • Cultural Amalgam: The inauguration ceremony featured a traditional Chhau dance performance and a musical tribute to the female poets of Bengal. The event also launched the “Anandomela” (food festival), where local home-chefs—predominantly women—set up stalls to showcase authentic Bengali cuisine.
