To the echoes of “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram,” Rohtak became the focal point of Haryana’s Gandhi Jayanti celebrations today as Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini lead by example in a city-wide cleanliness drive.

Leading from the Front: The CM arrived at the busy Subhash Chowk at dawn. Dressed simply, he joined local municipal workers in sweeping the main road and collecting litter in an iron pan. “Cleanliness was Gandhi ji’s most cherished value. Today, we are not just cleaning a street; we are renewing our commitment to a healthy Haryana,” the CM said while addressing the gathering.

Focus on “Safai Mitras”: A significant part of the morning was dedicated to the welfare of sanitation workers. The CM honored several workers for their tireless service and distributed safety kits. He noted that the state government is committed to providing regular health check-ups and insurance coverage for all Safai Mitras under the Antyodaya welfare schemes.
-
Environmental & Health Connection: Following the sweep, Saini moved to Mansarovar Park to plant a sapling under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. He linked the sanitation drive to public health, stating that a clean environment is the first line of defense against seasonal diseases.
-
Statewide Scale: Similar Shramdaan events were reported from all 22 districts, led by ministers and deputy commissioners. In Panchkula and Gurugram, massive plastic-collection drives were organized to mark the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
-
Drug-Free Awareness: Integrating social reform with sanitation, the CM also flagged off a small symbolic marathon in Rohtak to raise awareness against drug abuse among the youth, urging them to channel their energy into community service and fitness.
Administrative Impact: The Urban Local Bodies (ULB) department has directed all municipal corporations to identify “Cleanliness Target Units” (blackspots) in their respective cities and ensure they are transformed into beautified zones by the end of the fortnight on October 15.
