Haryana Schools: Education Dept Discusses Early Winter Vacations Due to Cold Wave

Nov 30, 2025 | Haryana

The prospect of an early winter holiday has become a topic of high-level discussion in Haryana’s education corridors as the state braces for a harsh winter.

  • Monitoring the Mercury: With morning temperatures already dipping to single digits in districts like Narnaul, Hisar, and Fatehabad, the Education Department is under pressure from parent associations to protect younger children from the morning chill.

  • The Proposal: Sources within the department suggest that if the cold wave intensifies between December 5 and December 10, the government might announce a “split vacation” or move the entire winter break forward. “The safety and health of our students are paramount. We are currently evaluating whether to change school timings or move directly to a break,” a senior official noted.

  • Academic Balance: A major concern for the department is the upcoming pre-board exams for classes 10 and 12. Any early vacation would likely apply first to primary sections (Classes 1-5), while senior students might continue with revised timings to ensure the syllabus is completed on time.

  • IMD Coordination: The department has requested a detailed 15-day forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A final decision is expected by the end of this week, once the impact of the current western disturbance is fully assessed.
