Rohtak MC Recovers ₹21 Crore in Major Property Tax Crackdown

Jan 7, 2026 | Haryana

In one of the most successful revenue recovery campaigns in its history, the Rohtak Municipal Corporation (RMC) has successfully recovered ₹21 crore in outstanding property tax. The surge in collections comes as the civic body launched a high-intensity “tightening of the noose” strategy against long-term defaulters, involving both legal threats and physical sealing of commercial establishments.

The Recovery Strategy Facing a significant revenue gap for the current fiscal year, the RMC Commissioner initiated a multi-pronged approach to clear the backlog of property tax dues.

  • Intensive Sealing Drive: Specialized teams were dispatched to various sectors of Rohtak to seal shops, showrooms, and industrial units that had ignored multiple notices. Over the last few days, several high-profile commercial properties were locked by the corporation, prompting owners to clear their dues immediately.

  • Waiver Incentives: The recovery was further bolstered by the state’s ongoing interest waiver scheme, which encouraged residents to settle the principal amount of their tax to avoid heavy interest penalties.

  • Direct Notifications: A dedicated cell within the RMC sent thousands of SMS alerts and final “ultimatum” letters to property owners, warning them of disconnection of water and sewage services.

Key Figures

  • Total Recovered: ₹21 Crore (Targeting the pending dues for 2024-25 and previous years).

  • Properties Sealed: Dozens of commercial units were temporarily sealed, many of which were reopened only after on-the-spot digital payments were confirmed.

  • Top Defaulters: The drive focused primarily on owners with dues exceeding ₹5 lakh.

Administrative Stand “Our intention is not to harass the public, but to ensure that the city has the funds needed for development. The ₹21 crore recovered today will be directly utilized for upcoming road repair projects and sanitation upgrades in Rohtak,” a senior RMC official stated. He added that the drive will continue until the end of the month, with no further extensions on the interest waiver likely.

Public Appeal The Municipal Corporation has urged all remaining property owners to verify their Property ID and pay their taxes online through the official state portal to avoid the embarrassment of sealing actions. Help desks have been set up at the RMC office to assist citizens with technical glitches in their tax records.
