Mahendragarh Set for Global Makeover: ₹57 Crore Ropeway for Dhosi Hill; Forts to Join Rajasthan Tourism Circuit

In a major push to place the historic district of Mahendragarh on the international tourism map, the Haryana government has accelerated efforts to develop key heritage sites under the Central Government’s ambitious ‘One State, One Global Destination’ initiative. The plan involves creating a comprehensive tourism corridor connecting the Mahendragarh-Narnaul belt with bordering tourist hotspots in Rajasthan.

A centerpiece of this transformation is the development of Dhosi Hill, an extinct volcano with deep Vedic significance. Officials confirmed that an 870-meter-long ropeway project is currently being executed at an estimated cost of ₹57 crore. This aerial link will make the hill more accessible to tourists and pilgrims, significantly boosting footfall.

Beyond Dhosi Hill, the administration is focusing on the restoration and redevelopment of several architectural marvels, including the Madhogarh Fort, Mahendragarh Fort, Jal Mahal, Chor Gumbad, Birbal ka Chhatta, and the Mirza Ali Jaan Baoli. Notably, there is a proposal to develop the local ‘baoli’ into a ‘Rani Mahal’ to enhance its grandeur.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who recently chaired a review meeting, emphasized that tourism acts as a “powerful catalyst for local development and employment generation.” Following this directive, Mahendragarh MLA Kanwar Singh Yadav met with Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to submit a detailed proposal for the forts’ development. “Developing Mahendragarh as a tourist destination will not only preserve our rich heritage but also create employment opportunities for locals,” Yadav stated.

Deputy Commissioner Capt Manoj Kumar highlighted the strategic advantage of the district’s location. “We are working to create a tourism circuit that connects Haryana’s historical spots with those in the neighboring state of Rajasthan. All-out efforts are underway to ensure these sites match international standards in terms of infrastructure and facilities,” he added.
