Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has taken strict cognizance of the tragic swing collapse at the Surajkund International Crafts Mela, ordering a comprehensive inquiry into the incident that claimed the life of a police inspector and injured several others. The CM has directed the administration to submit a detailed factual report on the safety certifications and operational protocols of the amusement rides.
Expressing deep grief over the demise of Inspector Jagdish Prasad, who was crushed to death while rescuing trapped visitors, the Chief Minister announced a financial assistance of ₹1 crore for his family. In recognition of his supreme sacrifice, the government has also decided to accord him ‘martyr’ status and provide a government job to one eligible family member.
“The safety of visitors is our top priority. Strict action will be taken against those found guilty of negligence,” CM Saini stated. He further announced a compensation of ₹1 lakh each for the seriously injured victims and directed that the state government would bear the entire cost of their medical treatment.
Meanwhile, an inquiry committee headed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) has been constituted to investigate the technical failure of the “Tsunami” joyride. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by the DCP (Crime) has already arrested the ride operator, Mohammad Shakir, and his staff. While the Surajkund Mela continues as per schedule, the amusement zone remains closed until further orders pending a safety audit.
