The dusty streets of Kulana village in Jhajjar district erupted in celebration on Monday as Kanishk Chauhan, a key member of India’s victorious Under-19 Cricket World Cup squad, returned home to a rousing reception. Villagers, family members, and local leaders gathered in thousands to welcome the young all-rounder, lifting him on their shoulders and showering him with flower petals amidst the beating of drums.
Kanishk played a pivotal role in India’s historic sixth U-19 World Cup triumph against England in the final held in Zimbabwe on Friday. In the summit clash, his blistering cameo of 37 runs off just 20 balls helped India post a record total of 411/9. He also made a crucial breakthrough with the ball, taking the wicket of England captain Thomas Rew to derail the opposition’s chase.
Upon his arrival, Kanishk performed a puja at the village temple before joining the procession. Speaking to the media, he credited the victory to the “collective effort” of the team and the support of his coaches. “Winning the World Cup was a dream, but this welcome from my village is a feeling beyond words,” he said.
His mother, Sarita Chauhan, fought back tears of joy, stating, “He has fulfilled my dream. My son’s hard work of 10 years has paid off.” Kanishk’s father, Pradeep Chauhan, and local Congress MLA Kuldeep Vats were also present to congratulate him. The celebration also marked Kanishk’s next big step—he has been signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for ₹30 lakh for the upcoming IPL 2026 season.
