Chamoli: Preparations are in full swing for the opening of Gurudwara Shri Hemkund Sahib on May 23. Teams of the Indian Army and volunteers have reached the shrine and begun clearing heavy snow along the yatra route.
Nearly 3 km of the trek remains covered under glacier ice, with continuous efforts underway to carve out safe pathways. After reaching the shrine, the team offered prayers and initiated snow clearance around the gurdwara and the sacred sarovar.
Despite changing weather conditions and fresh snowfall, more than half of the work has been completed. The remaining route and surrounding areas are expected to be cleared before the pilgrimage officially begins.
