CHANDIGARH – A tragic incident was reported in Khuda Alisher, Chandigarh, where a law student, Mahi Pathan (alias Baby), ended her life by hanging herself at home. The police have initiated a probe after recovering a detailed suicide note that holds a man from Haryana responsible for her death.
The deceased was 55 years old and worked as a driver. In the suicide note, Mahi wrote that she met the man, identified as Wasim from Mewat, Haryana, on Instagram in 2025, and their relationship developed under the false pretext of marriage.
Allegations of Financial Fraud: Mahi’s note accused Wasim of severe financial and emotional exploitation. She wrote that he had defrauded her of approximately ₹5-6 lakh, which included her college fees, leaving her unable to continue her education.
The note reads: “Now that he had achieved his motive, he used me and abandoned me. I even gave him my college fees, which I am unable to pay now. My entire future is ruined. I am depressed. He abused my parents and abandoned me. I now need justice. The address of the boy is written on the letter.”
The police have deposited both bodies (Mahi and Wasim, the accused, who also reportedly died by hanging) in the morgue and are investigating the matter. The investigation will focus on verifying the claims made in the suicide note and establishing the exact nature of the relationship and the alleged fraud.
