AMRITSAR – The results of the annual election for the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) were announced on Monday, confirming the re-election of Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami as the president for the fifth consecutive term for the 2025-26 session.
The election, held at the Teja Singh Samundri Hall in the Sri Harmandir Sahib complex, saw a total of 136 votes polled from the eligible members of the General House. Dhami secured a comfortable victory with 117 votes, while his opponent, Mithu Singh Kahneke, received 18 votes. One vote was declared invalid.
The decisive victory signals the continued stronghold of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) faction within the religious body, despite the earlier announcement by a breakaway Akali faction to participate in the contest.
Other Key Office-Bearers Elected: Along with Dhami’s re-election, the SGPC also announced the new leadership team:
- Senior Vice President: Raghujit Singh Virk
- Junior Vice President: Baldev Singh Kalyan
- General Secretary: Sher Singh Mandwala
Executive Committee Members: The 11 members chosen for the interim Executive Committee include Surjit Singh Garhi, Surjit Singh Tugalwala, Surjit Singh Kang, Gurpreet Singh Jhabbar, Diljeet Singh Bhindar, Harjinder Kaur, Baldev Singh Kaimpuri, Major Singh Dhillon, Mangwinder Singh Khaparkhedi, Jungbahadur Singh Rai, and Mithu Singh Kahneke.
The smooth election process ensures that the SGPC leadership remains stable ahead of the numerous programs scheduled to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur.
