PATIALA – A tragic incident has cast a shadow over the flood situation in Patiala, with a man drowning in floodwater in Devigarh’s Chamaru village. The victim, identified as Parminder Singh, a plumber, had reportedly slipped into the floodwater while returning home on Saturday night.

The drowning occurred as the Patiala district administration once again sounded the alert due to continuous heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of the Ghaggar and its tributary, the Tangri. The water level in the Ghaggar has once again increased at Bhankharpur, prompting a fresh advisory for residents of several sub-divisions.

In an official statement, Rajpura SDM Avikesh Gupta advised residents of villages in Ghanaur and Sanaur, including Untsar, Nanheri, Sanjarpur, Lachhru, Kamalpur, Rampur, Saunta, Maru, and Chamaru, to exercise caution and stay away from the river.

Deputy Commissioner Preeti Yadav confirmed the advisory, cautioning residents against using dirt roads and refraining from unnecessary travel. To prevent any embankment breaches, the administration has deployed MGNREGA workers to fortify the riverbanks. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by the ongoing flood crisis in the region.
