THANE – A 26-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly killing his maternal uncle at a hospital in Thane, following a heated argument that escalated into a fatal assault.
The accused, identified as Ganesh Ramesh Pujari, and the deceased, Mariappa Raju Nair (40), were both residents of Goregaon, Mumbai. The two had traveled to the hospital in Thane as Pujari’s wife was admitted there for delivery.
According to police reports, a fierce argument broke out between the nephew and the uncle while they were at the hospital premises. The argument quickly turned violent when Pujari allegedly slammed Nair’s head against the hospital steps and then lifted him and brutally smashed him on the stairs, resulting in his immediate death.
A critical piece of evidence surfaced in the form of CCTV footage, which reportedly shows Pujari dragging Nair aggressively by the collar before the fatal assault.
Police were alerted to the incident immediately after the assault and successfully apprehended Pujari from the spot. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to determine the exact motive behind the sudden, violent escalation of the argument.
