NEW DELHI – A senior Union Finance Ministry official, Navjot Singh, passed away, and his wife, Sandeep Kaur, was critically injured after their motorcycle was hit by a BMW in southwest Delhi on Sunday. The accident occurred near the Dhaula Kuan Metro station as the couple was returning home from Gurdwara Bangla Sahib. The Navjot Singh BMW crash has drawn widespread attention.

According to eyewitnesses, the BMW, which was being driven by a woman, first collided with the central verge before losing control and striking the couple’s motorcycle. The car’s occupants, a woman and her husband, a Gurugram-based businessman, were also injured and taken to a hospital.
The police were alerted by emergency calls reporting a traffic jam. They found the damaged BMW turned sideways and the motorcycle lying near the divider. Officials confirmed that the occupants of the BMW took the injured couple to a hospital in Mukherjee Nagar, about 22 km away. The couple’s son has since questioned this decision, asking why his parents were not taken to the closest hospital.
The police later received information about Singh’s passing. They have registered an FIR for rash driving, though no arrests have been made as the BMW occupants are still under treatment and their statements are yet to be recorded. An investigation, including forensic analysis, is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash and to take further legal action.
