In a chilling case that has sent shockwaves across the state, the Haryana Police in Panipat have launched a high-level investigation into a woman accused of serial infanticide. On July 17, 2025, police sources revealed details of a “highly sensitive” probe involving a woman named Poonam, who is alleged to have murdered four children—three young girls and her own son—over a span of two years.
🕵️♀️ Jealousy Driven Murders
The investigation, which gained momentum after suspicious circumstances surrounded a recent death, uncovered a disturbing pattern. The accused, a resident of Panipat/Sonipat, allegedly confessed to drowning the children in water tanks or tubs. The motive cited by investigators is deeply unsettling: the accused reportedly harboured a pathological jealousy and hatred for children she perceived as “more beautiful” than herself.
The victims include:
Three Nieces: Young girls from her extended family, aged between 6 and 9 years.
Her Own Son: Her 3-year-old son, Shubham, whom she allegedly killed in 2023 to mask the murder of one of the nieces and make it look like an accidental drowning of two children playing together.
🚓 Psychopathic Pattern Unveiled
Police officials described the accused as having “psychopathic tendencies.” For months, the deaths were treated by the families as tragic accidents until inconsistencies in her statements prompted a deeper probe. The Panipat Superintendent of Police (SP) stated that a dedicated Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to re-examine forensic evidence from the past incidents and build a watertight case.
The revelation has left the local community in Naultha and Siwah villages in disbelief, as the accused was known to be well-educated (holding an MA in Political Science) but socially withdrawn. The police are currently interrogating her to rule out any other potential victims or accomplices.
