PATIALA – A major political storm has erupted in Punjab as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has taken swift and drastic action against its own Sanaur MLA, Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, just a day after he publicly criticized his government. In a stunning turn of events, the MLA was not only stripped of his security cover but also revealed that a rape case has been filed against him.
Pathanmajra had previously been given additional security after claiming to receive threat calls. However, following his public remarks accusing senior state officials of blocking the desilting of riverbeds, the Patiala police immediately recalled eight gunmen attached to his security detail and transferred all Station House Officers (SHOs) and police post heads in his constituency.
The MLA has publicly addressed the situation, claiming that the orders were political and came directly from AAP’s “Delhi top brass” to “frighten anyone who speaks his mind.” Pathanmajra stated in a Facebook video that he would not be silenced, adding, “I have never bowed politically to anyone, nor will I ever do so. My conscience is alive.”
In the same video, Pathanmajra made the explosive claim that a rape case under IPC 376 has been registered against him in an old case involving his ex-wife. He alleged that this was another attempt by the Delhi-based leadership to “suppress his voice.” He appealed to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to “stand up against the Delhi lobby that was taking anti-Punjab decisions” and urged his supporters to stage a protest outside the SSP and DC offices in Patiala.
Senior police officials have so far refrained from commenting on the allegations, stating that the matter is under investigation. The swift and severe response from the party and law enforcement highlights the growing internal political tensions within the AAP’s Punjab unit.
