The Punjab Government has announced a sweeping ban on the sale of 112 “substandard” drugs across the state. This urgent measure follows the issuance of a list of such items by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) and is a direct response to recent incidents where the consumption of certain medicines led to fatalities.
Health Minister Balbir Singh confirmed the action in a social media post on Sunday, stating, “These drugs have been declared as substandard drugs by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO). The Health Department, Punjab, has completely banned the sale of these medicines.”

The minister emphasized the government’s priority on public health, urging citizens: “Please do not use any of the medications listed above. If any of these medicines are being sold in any medicine shop, then immediately inform the Health Department.”
The list provided by the government includes detailed specifics, such as the product name, batch number, manufacturing date, the company producing the item, and the test results that determined the product was substandard.
In addition to pharmaceuticals, the government has placed several other products under scanner, including energy drinks and oral rehydration solutions, due to adverse health reports.
