The Punjab government has announced the closure of all colleges, universities, and polytechnic institutes in the state until September 3, 2025, due to continuous heavy rainfall. The decision, aimed at ensuring the safety of students and staff, was made by Education Minister Harjot Bains and announced on social media.

In a post on X, Minister Bains stated that the closure will be effective immediately. He underscored the importance of student safety, particularly for those residing in hostels, and placed the responsibility for their well-being on the respective institutional administrations. The Minister also urged the public to strictly follow all guidelines issued by local authorities to navigate the ongoing inclement weather safely.

The closure of educational institutions comes as a preventive measure amidst the monsoon season, which has recently caused widespread flooding in various parts of the state. While the decision offers a temporary reprieve, it also highlights the challenges posed by extreme weather conditions to daily life and public services.
