AMRITSAR – A Sikh jatha comprising over 2,100 devotees will travel to Pakistan to celebrate the Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev on November 4. This cross-border pilgrimage marks a significant resumption of tradition after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) decided earlier this month to lift restrictions on such visits.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) confirmed receiving visas for 1,796 devotees from the Pakistan embassy. The pilgrimage will proceed to Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib, with the jatha scheduled to return on November 13. Sources indicate the total count of devotees receiving visas is above 2,100.
This will be the first jatha to cross the border since the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, which led to high security concerns. Previously, on September 12, Sikh bodies, including the SGPC, had received a circular from the MHA citing security concerns as the reason for denying permission for the pilgrimage.
Palwinder Singh, incharge of the SGPC’s Yatra Vibhag, confirmed returning from Delhi after receiving the visas.
Paramjit Singh Chandok, chief adviser of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), welcomed the move, noting the deep attachment the “Nanak Nam Lewa Sangat” has with Gurdwara Janam Asthan. He recalled that the tradition was upheld even during the 1999 Kargil war and the 2001 attack on Parliament.
As per a 1974 accord between India and Pakistan, a total of 3,000 pilgrims are scheduled to travel to Pakistan for the commemoration, including those recommended by the SGPC (1,800) and the DSGMC (555).

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ – 2,100 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂਆਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਸਿੱਖ ਜਥਾ 4 ਨਵੰਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਪੁਰਬ ਨੂੰ ਮਨਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਦੀ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਕਰੇਗਾ। ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਮੰਤਰਾਲੇ (MHA) ਵੱਲੋਂ ਇਸ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਰਹੱਦ ਪਾਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਯਾਤਰਾਵਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਲੱਗੀਆਂ ਪਾਬੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਟਾਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਇਹ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਇੱਕ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਰਿਵਾਜ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਕਰੇਗੀ।
ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਕਮੇਟੀ (SGPC) ਨੇ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨੀ ਦੂਤਾਵਾਸ ਤੋਂ 1,796 ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂਆਂ ਲਈ ਵੀਜ਼ੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਜਥਾ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਜਨਮ ਅਸਥਾਨ, ਨਨਕਾਣਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਲਈ ਰਵਾਨਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ 13 ਨਵੰਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਸ ਪਰਤੇਗਾ। ਸੂਤਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕੁੱਲ 2,100 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀਜ਼ਾ ਮਿਲ ਚੁੱਕਾ ਹੈ।
SGPC ਦੇ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਇੰਚਾਰਜ, ਪਾਲਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨੀ ਦੂਤਾਵਾਸ ਤੋਂ ਵੀਜ਼ੇ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਪਸ ਆਏ ਹਨ।
ਦਿੱਲੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਕਮੇਟੀ (DSGMC) ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ, ਪਰਮਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਚੰਦੋਕ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ “ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਲੇਵਾ ਸੰਗਤ” ਦਾ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਜਨਮ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਲਗਾਵ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਪਰੰਪਰਾ 1999 ਦੀ ਕਾਰਗਿਲ ਜੰਗ ਅਤੇ 2001 ਦੇ ਸੰਸਦ ਹਮਲੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੁਕੀ ਸੀ।
