Amidst the catastrophic floods sweeping across North India, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has assured farmers in Punjab of the Central Government’s full support. In a meeting held on Monday to assess the damage caused by incessant rains in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir, Chouhan announced his plan to visit Punjab for a first-hand assessment of the crop losses.
“I especially wish to assure my farmer friends in Punjab not to worry about anything. The Union Government is with them in this hour of crisis. I will soon visit flood-affected areas of Punjab and meet farmers,” the Minister stated, highlighting the Central Government’s concern for the state’s agrarian community.
The Minister’s announcement comes as the Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed that inter-ministerial central teams would be dispatched to Punjab on Tuesday. These teams are tasked with visiting the flood-hit areas, assessing the extent of the damage, and preparing a detailed report to guide further Central relief efforts.
The visit and the deployment of central teams are seen as a direct response to the dire situation on the ground, where thousands of acres of standing crops have been destroyed. The proactive engagement by the Union Government aims to provide a sense of security to the farming community and ensure that adequate measures are taken for relief and rehabilitation.
