JALANDHAR – A 35-year-old lab technician, Ashutosh Mahajan, was shot dead on Sunday night in a brazen daylight attack outside his father’s restaurant on Batala Road, triggering a major police investigation and raising concerns about law and order.
According to a police statement, two masked assailants on a bike attacked Mahajan, the son of the restaurant owner. Eyewitnesses reported that one of the suspects first entered the restaurant to procure water before the duo opened fire, hitting the victim three times. Mahajan was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
In a shocking development just hours after the murder, a social media account named “Anmol Bishnoi,” linked to notorious gangster Hari Boxer of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the killing. The post alleged that Mahajan was a police informant who had leaked information about the whereabouts of their accomplice, Nona Harike, and was “taught a lesson” as a result.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. He stated that the claims made on social media are being verified and are a key focus of the investigation. Authorities are currently examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the perpetrators and are also analyzing the victim’s call records. Statements from Mahajan’s family have been recorded as part of the probe.
The murder has sent shockwaves through the local community and highlighted the increasing use of social media by criminal elements to claim responsibility for heinous crimes. The police have vowed to bring the culprits to justice and verify the motive behind the killing.
