CI Amritsar BUSTS Pakistan-Backed Arms Smuggling Network; 9 Sophisticated Pistols Seized

AMRITSAR – In a significant crackdown on cross-border crime, the Counter Intelligence (CI) wing of Amritsar Police today successfully busted an illegal arms smuggling module and arrested three key operatives. The action led to the recovery of a substantial consignment: nine sophisticated pistols along with their magazines.

The arrested individuals were identified as Davinder Singh, a resident of Bhangwan village, and Paramjit Singh alias Pamma and Harmeet Singh alias Meetu, both residents of Bhindi Aulakh in Amritsar Rural.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav confirmed on Thursday that preliminary investigations revealed the trio was working under the direction of a Pakistan-based smuggler. The recovered weapons consignment, which was successfully intercepted near Gurdwara Baba Mohri Ji at Chogawan, had been air-dropped by a drone from across the Indo-Pak border in the Bhindi Aulakh area.

The DGP stated that the weapons were specifically intended for Sherpreet Singh alias Gulaba, a close associate of notorious gangster Jobanjit Singh alias Billa Manga. The consignment was meant to facilitate various criminal activities planned by the gang across Punjab.

DGP Yadav added that Sherpreet alias Gulaba is a habitual offender with seven criminal cases registered against him, including those related to the possession of illegal arms, theft, and robbery. A case has been registered against the arrested persons under Sections 25 and 25(1-A) of the Arms Act and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the State Special Operation Cell. Further investigation is underway to identify the “backward and forward linkages” of the network and trace other members involved in this cross-border operation.
