SIT Probes Aqil Akhtar’s De-Addiction History in Patiala; Father Mohammad Mustafa Confirms 18-Year Drug Battle

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of Aqil Akhtar, son of former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa and former Minister Razia Sultana, visited a de-addiction centre in Patiala today to collect his medical and treatment records. Mohammad Mustafa confirmed that Aqil had struggled with drug addiction since 2007, which was exacerbated by the use of ‘Ice’ (methamphetamine), leading to schizophrenia. Mustafa asserted that he welcomed the post-mortem for transparency and claimed a viral video cited by the complainant was recorded when Aqil was not in a sound mental state. The SIT has also sought to seal Aqil’s room in Panchkula for a forensic inspection.
